How to Encrypt files with 7zip

Modified on Wed, 16 Oct at 4:00 PM

This guide will demonstrate how to encrypt files using 7zip. Please note, if recipients are unable to access the encrypted files, they may also need 7zip to unencrypt them once received.

Step 1:

Select the files and/or folder to wish to encrypt, right click, hover over "7-Zip" and click "Add to archive"

Step 2:

Enter the name you want the Encrypted Zip file to be called, then change "Archive format" to "zip".

Under the "Encryption" section, enter the password you're using to protect the encrypted files. Then change "Encrypted method" to "AES-256"

All other options can be left as the defaults.

Click "OK" when finished. The new encrypted files will be saved to the same location as the originals unless you have specified otherwise.
