Outlook Sending Delays

You may have a requirement or desire to setup a 5 minute delay in sending emails in Outlook.
This guide will assist you in the creation of a Outlook rule that will delay emails by 5 minutes. Older versions of Outlook may look different but the same process should be able to be applied.

This rule will need to be applied to each device you use Outlook on as these rules are not shared between devices.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

1. Setting up the Outlook Rule

Step 1: Go to Rules

In Outlook you will need to press the File Button in the top left of your outlook window and then select "Manage Rules & Alerts"

Step 2: Select "New Rule..."

When you select New Rule a new window will open

Step 3:Apply rule on messages I send

Select the option for "Apply rule on messages I send" and then click "Next" and then Next again

This will bring a popup and you will need to select "Yes"

Step 4: Apply the delay

Once you have clicked through that option you will be given the several options and you will need to select "Defer delivery by a number of minutes"

Once you have selected that you will need to click in the lower box on the section in blue that reads "a number of minutes"

Step 5: Setting a delay

Set your delay in the number of minutes in the window that pops up and then select "OK"

Step 6: Finishing the Rule

You will be brought to another page with any exceptions. Click next on that page and then give the rule a name that will easily identify it and then select Finished.

That will open a last popup where you will need to click "OK"

Step 7: Applying the rule

You will now need to select Apply and OK and that will apply the rule to run.
